Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and Religious Hate Crimes
Hate has no place in our society or in our politics. Sadly, the 9th District and Illinois have seen too many instances of religious violence and discrimination: from the defacement and threats to synagogues and mosques, to shootings of our neighbors and businesses, to murder and attacks on children. I find it deplorable that our places of worship need to have armed guards and other extensive security protocols - and have for years. I will fight against antisemitism, Islamophobia, and faith- and ethnic-based violence with everything I have. These tragedies cannot be normalized, and we cannot grow numb to their devastating impact.
My family’s story is rooted in rejecting hate. My father came to Edgewater as an asylum seeker fleeing political violence. My mother's family was among the first to integrate public housing in Lincoln Square. I am committed to building a multiracial America that welcomes all people the way my family was welcomed to the Far North Side of Chicago.
